How to save on a one-way car rental from Calgary to Edmonton

One-way rental prices can vary by date, vehicle category and the exact pickup and return locations. Compare more than one option before booking.

  • Check nearby dates. Rental prices can change by pickup date, inventory and availability. If your schedule is flexible, compare a day or two either side of your planned dates. Another day is not guaranteed to be cheaper.
  • Compare more than one car category. In our three-day sample, Small had the lowest observed total at $137. SUV sat next at $167. Medium and Large shared $186. Open neighbouring sizes before assuming another cabin will cost the same.
  • Compare the full one-way total. The complete booking total for Calgary to Edmonton matters more than the daily rate. Check the full price breakdown on the offer you book. Do not assume a separate one-way or Alberta intercity charge.
  • Compare practical Calgary pickup and Edmonton return locations. In our sample, Calgary pickups included city branches and YYC, while Edmonton returns were at city locations rather than Edmonton International Airport. City pickups included the lowest observed totals. Compare the combination that fits your trip rather than assuming the airport or the city is always cheaper.
  • If you collect at YYC, invoices can include an Airport Facility Charge of C$10 per rental day from 1 July 2026. That is a rental cost, not a road toll, and it may already sit inside the displayed total. Compare transmission options. In our sample, the priced Calgary to Edmonton offers were automatic. If both transmissions are available when you book, compare them rather than assuming a manual will cost less.

Tips for a one-way car rental from Calgary to Edmonton

For this 185 mi Calgary to Edmonton rental (about 3h 5m), check your exact Calgary pickup and the Deerfoot Trail to QEII run before you leave.

  • Confirm the Calgary street on your voucher

Pickup is not one Calgary garage. Downtown desks used 9 Avenue SW, 5th Avenue SE and 10th Avenue SW. Other city desks used Macleod Trail South, Edmonton Trail NE, 17 Avenue SE, 26 Street NE and 32 Street NE. YYC used 2000 Airport Road NE. Follow the voucher address.

  • If collecting at Calgary Airport

On-site companies use the Rental Car Centre on the Departures Level, across the roadway from the Domestic Terminal. Off-site companies are a different pickup. Confirm which one is on your voucher. From YYC, follow signs toward Deerfoot Trail (Highway 2) north. That is not the Memorial Drive start used from downtown.

  • Join Deerfoot Trail then the QEII

From a downtown start, Memorial Drive NE reaches the Highway 2 North ramp toward Deerfoot Trail. Stay on Highway 2 north out of Calgary. After the north city limit this corridor is the QEII Highway through Airdrie and on past Red Deer. Keep on this road. No toll is indicated on this routing.

  • Stay on Gateway Boulevard into Edmonton

Near Edmonton, keep right to stay on Highway 2. The northbound urban name is Gateway Boulevard NW. This routing does not join Anthony Henday Drive. It also does not leave the QEII for Airport Road or 65 Avenue. Turn left onto Whyte Avenue NW, then use 106 Street NW and 83 Avenue NW for the city finish.

  • Edmonton International is a different drop

Edmonton International Airport sits south of the city, before you reach Gateway Boulevard and Whyte Avenue. This one-way used Edmonton city returns. Do not leave the QEII for the airport unless your voucher names that airport. Follow the exact city address on your booking. Check opening hours before you leave Calgary.

  • Budget fuel for the QEII run

Our estimate puts fuel at about $23 to $46 for this drive. Include that beside the rental total. Fuel is a real cost on this Deerfoot Trail and QEII run.
