How to save on a one-way car rental from Vancouver to Kelowna
- Check nearby dates. Rental prices can change by pickup date, inventory and availability. If your schedule is flexible, compare a day or two either side of your planned dates. Another day is not guaranteed to be cheaper.
- Compare more than one car category. In our three-day sample, Small and Medium shared the lowest observed total at $232 and $232. Large sat next at $242. SUV was close at $249, so the smallest cabin was not meaningfully cheaper than Medium.
- Compare the full one-way total. The complete booking total matters more than the daily rate on this Vancouver to Kelowna run. One-way pricing can depend on the vehicle, booking conditions and the exact Vancouver pickup and Kelowna return combination.
- Compare practical Vancouver pickup and Kelowna return locations. In our sample, the lowest observed totals included Abbotsford Airport, which is not a Vancouver city desk. Vancouver city desks sat close, and Vancouver International Airport sat a little higher. Check the exact Kelowna drop-off rather than assuming downtown Kelowna or the airport.
- The lowest observed Vancouver to Kelowna totals did not include free cancellation. Offers with free cancellation started higher. Check the cancellation terms on the car you book rather than assuming the cheapest total is easy to change.
Tips for a one-way car rental from Vancouver to Kelowna
For this 244 mi Vancouver to Kelowna rental (about 4h 40m), check your exact Vancouver pickup and the Highway 5 to Highway 97C run before you leave.
-
Use the Vancouver address on your voucher
City desks on Seymour Street, Southwest Marine Drive or Granville Street start on Vancouver streets toward Highway 1. A Vancouver International Airport pickup starts on Grant McConachie Way on Sea Island, on the ground floor of the parkade, not from a shuttle. Abbotsford Airport on Liberator Avenue is a Fraser Valley start. Follow the street on your voucher.
-
Join Highway 1 east toward Hope
From a city pickup, East 12th Avenue joins Highway 1 east through the Fraser Valley toward Hope. Near Hope the Trans-Canada continues briefly as the Crowsnest Highway, then this drive keeps left onto Highway 5 north, the Coquihalla Highway. It does not stay on Highway 3 toward Princeton. No toll is indicated.
-
Leave Highway 5 for Highway 97C
Near Merritt this drive leaves Highway 5 at the Kelowna exit and joins Highway 97C east, the Okanagan Connector. It does not stay on Highway 5 toward Kamloops. Highway 97C is not Highway 97. Highway 97 begins later, after the Connector meets it near Peachland.
-
Cross the Bennett Bridge into Kelowna
After Highway 97C meets Highway 97, this drive follows Highway 97 north through West Kelowna, crosses Okanagan Lake on the William R. Bennett Bridge, then continues on Highway 97 to Cooper Road and Enterprise Way. Kelowna International Airport is a different return farther north. Follow the street on your voucher.
-
Confirm BC winter tires in season
Highway 5 and Highway 97C are designated winter-tire routes. On those mountain sections, passenger cars need winter tires from 1 October to 30 April. A legal tire needs at least 3.5 mm of tread and an M+S marking or the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol. Confirm with the rental company that the supplied car meets current BC rules for this route. Do not assume every Vancouver car already qualifies.
-
Add fuel beside the rental total
Our estimate puts fuel at about $31 to $61 for this drive. Add that beside the rental total when you compare Vancouver to Kelowna offers.
